Meet Dr. Jason E. Lowenstein

Advanced Spine Center is proud to introduce Dr. Jason E. Lowenstein.  As part of our team. Dr. Lowenstein brings a wealth of experience to patients here, with expertise in a variety of conditions affecting the spine.

Born in New York City, Dr. Lowenstein and his family relocated to Pittsburgh, PA when he was a teen.  His dream of becoming a doctor took him to the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences.  Graduating from that institution Magna Cum Laude, where he intensively studied neuroscience, he was named a Dean’s List Scholar.  Dr. Lowenstein also studied at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Dr. Lowenstein became fascinated by the implications of spinal cord injuries as part of his studies in neuroscience.  This fascination was to lead to establishing himself as an expert in the management of issues affecting the spine.

As a young doctor, Dr. Lowenstein completed residencies with the Columbia University Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Hospital, as well as enjoying a fellowship in spine and scoliosis surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

A Widely Respected Authority

Over his years of practice, Dr. Lowenstein has established himself as a widely respected authority in conditions affecting the spine and their treatment.  He has also authored abstracts and book chapters concerning his area of specialization.  Articles in peer-reviewed journals form a part of Dr. Lowenstein’s legacy of ongoing research and development into spinal conditions and therapies.

Areas of Specialty

Dr. Lowenstein’s expertise in the treatment of spinal deformities like kyphosis, scoliosis and spondylolisthesis are prized by the team here at Advanced Spine.  His extensive experience in the treatment of disc herniations and spinal stenosis bring our patients outstanding, evidence-based care.

Dr. Lowenstein enthusiastically embraces new frontiers in spinal therapies, including endoscopy and artificial disc replacement, offering patients hope and freedom from the pain caused by the conditions he specializes in.

Of special interest to Dr. Lowenstein is complex revision surgery for failed back syndrome.  Patients who’ve had previous surgeries in need of revision benefit enormously from his expertise in this area, coupled with this concern for their wellbeing.

With minimally invasive surgical procedures now becoming increasingly sought after, patients should know that Dr. Lowenstein is highly skilled in these techniques.

Distinctions & Honors

As recently as March 2017, Dr. Lowenstein was honored with the Top Doctor designation by Castle Connolly Medical, for his work in the New York Metropolitan Area.  Dr. Lowenstein is also in the top 10% of doctors in the NYC Metro Area.

Dr. Lowenstein has been named a Top Doctor by Inside Jersey Magazine.  A favorite among young patients, Dr. Lowenstein is honored to have been named a Top Doctor for Children’s Health and New Jersey’s Favorite Kids’ Docs, among many other recognitions and awards.

Professional Associations

Dr. Lowenstein is a board-certified spine and scoliosis surgeon.  His professional associations extend to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Scoliosis Research Society and North American Spine Society.  He is a member-at-large of the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society.
