About Dr. Lowenstein
Dr. Jason E. Lowenstein is a board certified, fellowship-trained, Adult and Pediatric Spine and Scoliosis Surgeon. He is a partner at the Advanced Spine Center and the Director of Scoliosis and Spinal Deformity at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ.
He has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, voted Top Doctor by New Jersey Monthly Magazine, honored by Inside Jersey Magazine as a Top Doctor, Top Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon, and Top Doctor for Children’s Health, and received the NJ’s Favorite Kids Doc Award by New Jersey Family Magazine. He is an active member of the Scoliosis Research Society, the North American Spine Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Lowenstein specializes in the treatment of spinal deformities, including scoliosis, kyphosis, and spondylolisthesis. He is an expert in minimally invasive spine surgery. He has extensive experience in treating disc herniations and stenosis of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He has a particular interest in complex revision surgery for patients who have had previous spine surgery and have associated failed back syndrome, and is a regional referral source for patients who have previously had spine surgery and require re-operation. He has expertise in spinal motion preservation, and will perform artificial disc replacement and posterior cervical laminoplasty to maintain motion and avoid fusion when clinically indicated. Dr. Lowenstein also vast experience in treating spinal trauma and fractures, as well as tumors and infections of the spine.
Dr. Lowenstein graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania where he studied neuroscience and was honored as a Dean’s List Scholar. He received his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he worked in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery’s Growth and Development laboratory, performing gene therapy research for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Following medical school, Dr. Lowenstein performed his orthopedic surgery residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital / Columbia University Medical Center. There, he conducted research in the treatment of spinal deformities, such as scoliosis and spondylolisthesis. Dr. Lowenstein then completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the Emory Spine Center / Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He currently practices at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ, Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, and Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ.
